Not many people would put a dishwasher on their Christmas list, but maybe some should. As the season ‘to be jolly’ throttles up into full swing, commercial kitchens, hotels, restaurants and even care homes will be welcoming more guests. More people means more sittings, more crockery, cutlery and glassware, and less time to turn things around. Those who have a decent dishwasher, either mechanical (or human) might be fine, but if not – and they end up being all washed up – then they might wish that they had asked for some help – with a bow on!
It’s where Miele’s newly updated MasterLine range comes into its own. Promoted earlier this year, it’s the German geniuses’ most advanced commercial dishwasher line to date, and it’s been purpose- built for high-throughput environments that need hygiene at speed.
When the party ramps up, the pressure’s on
The headline feature is the ‘Super Short’ programme, a five-minute cycle that delivers hygienic results without compromise. That’s a lifeline during December’s back-to-back bookings and festive functions. Whether you’re turning around glassware between sittings or keeping pace with a care home’s Christmas lunch service, the ability to clean thoroughly in minutes makes a real operational difference.
Of course, speed means nothing without hygiene. Yet, even in short cycles, MasterLine removes 99.999% of bacteria, with final rinse temperatures reaching up to 93°C. It’s certified with the Virus Seal of Approval in Gold from the Institute for Integrative Hygiene and Virology – a reassuring badge when hygiene is under scrutiny from both regulators and guests.
Usability has had a serious upgrade too. The new M Touch Basic and M Touch Flex interfaces are glove-friendly, icon-based, and support 32 languages. You can even name your own programmes, which is a small but smart feature that reduces user error during busy shifts when staff may be rotating or covering unfamiliar roles.
MasterLine is built for up to 40 cycles a day, with baskets that adapt to everything from beer steins to soup bowls. That flexibility is especially useful during the end-of-year party season, when menus expand, service patterns shift, and the volume of ware can spike.
Each cycle uses fresh water for every phase, ensuring no residue and consistent hygiene. The machines are also built with recyclable materials, tested for 28,000 cycles, and integrate with the Miele MOVE portal for remote monitoring, diagnostics, and usage tracking. That means fewer surprises, fewer breakdowns, and more control over detergent, water, and energy use even during peak periods.
Not just for Christmas; still a December essential
Still, let’s be honest – it is just a dishwasher. Strip away the gold seals, the telemetry, the touchscreens, and you’re still talking about a machine that washes dishes. But in commercial settings, that “just” becomes a bit of a misnomer. Because when you’re running 40 cycles a day, juggling hygiene compliance, staff turnover, and sustainability targets, the difference between a good dishwasher and a great one is important. Miele doesn’t pretend that MasterLine is more than it is. They’re just saying:
“we’ve made the thing you rely on faster, cleaner, smarter, and easier to use, and in December, that’s exactly what you need.”
MasterLine is not for everyone though. It’s likely over-specced for small cafés or low-volume venues where a standard undercounter unit would do the job just fine. (Miele has an answer for that too, of course). It’s also not ideal for sites without the plumbing or throughput to justify the investment. But for busy, compliance-sensitive operations, especially during the festive season, it’s a labour-saving, hygiene-assured, resource-conscious workhorse.
And when the Christmas rush hits, that’s not just nice to have. It’s essential. And if you’re still drafting that letter to Santa, well now you know what to ask for.
