In the commercial laundry sector, operational efficiency has always been a balancing act between speed, safety, and sustainability. With the launch of Miele MOVE Connect, Miele Professional has introduced a digital platform that redefines how laundry operations are managed, monitored, and optimised. It marks a shift in how businesses can think about laundry as a data-driven, safety-critical process.
Launched in the UK on 30 April 2025, MOVE Connect builds on the success of Miele MOVE, offering a browser-based web app that connects network-compatible machines across multiple sites. It provides real-time insights into machine status, performance, and consumption data which are all accessible from a desktop, a tablet or a smartphone. According to Miele’s official UK site, the platform delivers “transparent information on the CO₂ emissions of your Miele Professional machines based on electricity and water consumption,” helping businesses make informed decisions about sustainability and resource use.
What came before?
Before platforms like MOVE Connect, commercial laundries relied heavily on manual tracking, paper-based logs, and standalone machine interfaces. Staff would record wash cycles, faults, and maintenance schedules by hand or in spreadsheets. Machine performance was monitored reactively. Issues were spotted only after breakdowns occurred and service calls often required on-site diagnostics without prior data.
In larger facilities, this meant juggling multiple systems: one for inventory, another for maintenance, and perhaps a third for delivery logistics. This fragmentation led to inefficiencies, missed faults, and limited visibility across sites. Sustainability metrics, if they were tracked at all, were estimated from utility bills rather than machine-level data.
How MOVE Connect changes the game
MOVE Connect replaces this fragmented model with a centralised, real-time dashboard. Users can:
- Monitor machine status and programme data across locations
- Receive fault alerts and forward them directly to service technicians
- Track water and energy consumption per machine or site
- Generate CO₂ emissions reports to support sustainability goals
- Label machines by location and customise dashboards for different teams
One standout feature is the ability to create “virtual machines” to represent non-Miele assets, allowing mixed systems to be managed within the same platform. This flexibility is rare among commercial laundry systems.
While competitors offer remote monitoring and performance analytics, MOVE Connect goes further in sustainability tracking, service coordination, and cross-brand compatibility. It’s also modular, meaning users can start with the free basic version and add industry-specific modules as needed.
Why it matters
In sectors like healthcare, hospitality, and emergency response, laundry isn’t only about cleanliness, it’s also about safety, compliance, and operational continuity. MOVE Connect helps teams stay ahead of faults, optimise resource use, and demonstrate environmental accountability.
As Miele’s UK site puts it:
“By connecting your machines with the web app Miele MOVE Connect, you gain valuable insights and can use the data immediately in the context of your company-wide sustainability activities”.
For commercial laundries moving beyond legacy systems, this platform offers clarity, control, and confidence, without the complexity of traditional infrastructure.
