Go large with mammoth Miele machines

Miele Professional has recently moved further into larger-capacity machines with the introduction of the 27kg PWM 927 and 35kg PWM 935.

Part of the Benchmark series, they sit at the top end of the range and are clearly designed for high-volume operations where laundry never really stops.

To put the scale into context, the 35kg machine can handle very large loads in one go, with up to 292 microfibre mops or around 1,100 wipes depending on the application.

That is really what these machines are about: doing more in fewer loads.

What Miele says about them

Miele describe the range as delivering “more power, less consumption”, with a focus on washing larger volumes while reducing water and energy usage.

With a g-factor of over 500, the spin performance leaves textiles with far less residual moisture. In practical terms, that means shorter drying times and lower overall energy use.

Miele also points to measurable savings. In standard mop programmes, energy consumption can be reduced by up to 16 per cent, with water savings of up to 18 per cent. Over time, that can add up to significant cost reductions.

Alongside that, a number of design changes improve day-to-day efficiency. Compact heating systems allow for lower water levels in the drum, cutting both water usage and running time. Reworked valves mean faster fill times, and there is the option of a weighing plinth which automatically adjusts load size to avoid wasted energy and water.

None of this is particularly eye-catching on its own, but taken together it is clearly aimed at improving performance over thousands of cycles.

Built for continuous use

The PWM 927 and 935 are built to stand up to constant demands. Miele states that they are designed for around 30,000 operating hours, reflecting the type of usage they are intended for.

Internally, they include features such as a 3D sensor to detect imbalance and protect the machine at high spin speeds, along with the latest version of the honeycomb drum to move dirt away efficiently
during the wash.

There is also a strong focus on usability. A full-touch colour display allows programmes to be adapted depending on the application, with support for multiple languages and simple visual cues for operators. They can also be connected to Miele’s digital platform, allowing operators to monitor usage, throughput and energy consumption.

Who are they for?

These are not machines for occasional use; they are built for constant throughput. Typical settings would be:

  • hotels with high linen turnover
  • care homes and healthcare settings
  • facilities management and contract cleaning
  • larger on-site laundries handling bulk work

These are operations where consistency and throughput matter more than anything else.

The real advantage of going bigger

On paper, it is just a bigger machine. In reality, it changes how the laundry runs.

The most obvious difference is fewer cycles. Processing more in one go reduces how often you are loading, unloading and restarting. Over the course of a day, that takes some pressure off both the workflow and the team.

There is also the efficiency side. These machines are designed to use less energy and water per kilo, which is where they start to make financial sense at scale.

And then there is drying. Because more moisture is removed in the spin, loads go into the dryer in a better state to begin with. That means less time, less energy and fewer hold-ups at what is usually the most expensive stage.

A sensible step rather than a dramatic change

It is typically Miele and its Immer Besser approach. This is not a radical shift, just a logical step. Bigger machines, better efficiency per load and fewer bottlenecks in the overall process. For operations dealing with steady, high volumes, that is often exactly what is needed.
