Miele’s range of laundry machines has long been a trusted choice for businesses that require high-performance laundry operations in compact spaces. Those designed for commercial use, like the outstanding Little Giants, combine efficiency, durability, and sustainability, making them ideal for industries such as hospitality, healthcare, and care homes.
But here are more reasons why Miele should be top of your shopping list. The Institute for Integrative Hygiene and Virology – InFluenc_H (an independent platform for the evaluation of the quality of cleaning and hygiene services) has recently commended Miele for its high hygiene standards in its commercial washing machines (and dishwashers).
Miele had previously won the coveted gold (level 3) virus seal of approval for meeting above average hygiene standards outside of the healthcare sector; now Miele has won the black (level 4) seal of approval for even higher standards.
Degrees of hygiene
The “tested hygiene quality” label, ensures that a product or service has a proven above-average hygiene standard. The Institute awards quality labels at four levels, with the fourth denoting “excellent” hygiene.
Commercial washing machines typically operate at temperatures between 49°C to 60°C for a hot wash cycle. This range ensures effective stain removal and hygiene while protecting fabrics. For industries requiring strict sanitation, such as healthcare or hospitality, thermal disinfection guidelines recommend washing at 65°C for 10 minutes or 71°C for 3 minutes to eliminate bacteria and allergens while maintaining fabric integrity.
In the food industry and healthcare, requiring strict hygiene, washing at 60°C to 90°C is recommended. This helps eliminate bacteria and pathogens while ensuring compliance with safety standards. For protective clothing and PPE, industrial laundry programmes often follow ISO 15797, which includes washing at 60°C to 75°C to maintain durability and cleanliness.
No need to boil
It means products like the Little Giants washing machine series with load capacities of between 6 and 8 kg and the new Benchmark Machines for loads of 12 to 20 kg are top of the pile, because they are exceeding standards without the ‘boil wash.’ These machines deactivate more than 99.9% of all viruses at temperatures of 70°C or 75°C. To cater for applications in hygienically sensitive areas, these machines also feature thermal and chemo-thermal disinfection programmes offering a large margin of safety. These programmes are locked once started, in order to prevent the premature termination of the wash process. After the disinfection phase, no further water is taken in via the detergent dispenser, thereby significantly reducing the risk of recontamination.
The parameters crucial to disinfection are monitored continuously. If the water temperature drops because of defective heater elements, the programme is immediately terminated and the display indicates an error. The temperature chart can also be monitored via the Miele MOVE online portal and, depending on requirements, also includes the documentation of relevant data. If a washing machine is connected to a Miele dispensing system, correct volumes of process chemicals are guaranteed and early warnings are issued when canister levels are low.
Masterline dishwashers
A door lock also protects fresh water dishwashers from Miele’s MasterLine dishwasher generation to prevent access while a programme is running. Information on the parameters reached are displayed at the end of a programme. One model from this series already awarded the seal in gold has now additionally been granted the seal in black: The PFD 407, with its Vario TD programme offers thermal disinfection removing more than 99.99% of enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, including Corona, influenza and the Norovirus.
