Do you Need a Commercial Dishwasher?

do you need a commercial dishwasher

Changing from a standard dishwasher to a commercial dishwasher can be a difficult decision to make. One of the main reasons for this is that most people are unaware of the differences between a standard dishwasher and the professional equivalent.

So once you know the difference between the two, it might be easier to decide whether or not to make that leap. Here is you guide which might help you decide if you need a commercial dishwasher.

How are Commercial Dishwashers Different?

Although a commercial dishwasher and a standard dishwasher in essence perform the same function. They are very different machines. Commercial dishwashers are normally much larger, as the industry setting means they require a larger capacity. They are also much more powerful.

A professional dishwasher will normally operate at a much higher temperature than a standard dishwasher. This is what allows the time of the cleaning cycle to be shorter with a commercial dishwasher. Because the higher temperature cleans dishes at a much faster rate.

Have you Considered your Power Supply and Plumbing?

The first thing people think when they read about the temperature difference is; Why doesn’t my home appliance operate at that temperature if the cleaning process happens quicker? The answer is energy use. The amount of extra energy required to heat the water up as required, is not worth the time saved in the vast majority of households.

Also, the power required means that on a lot of appliances, a normal 13 amp household plug will not be enough to operate the machine. The dishwasher must be plugged directly into the mains electricity supply.

As well as the increased demands on your power supply. Because of the volume and temperature of the water. You need to ensure your plumbing can withstand the strain which will be placed on it by a commercial dishwasher.

Because of the high temperature the water is heated to, standard plumbing may not be able to deal with the increased demands. The pipes need to be able to cope with the change in temperature from cold when they aren’t in use, to very hot when the water is flowing. Add to the mix the pressure from the volume of water which is fed into the machine, and you have something which is putting a lot of strain on your plumbing.

You also must be aware that a lot of commercial dishwashers do not have a drying cycle. They are designed to drip dry. This means that a floor drain may be required to take water away. This is an important consideration as you don’t want to get to the installation phase only to find out you do not have a way of draining waste water.

Do you Need a Commercial Dishwasher?

There are a number of benefits to switching to a commercial dishwasher. The overwhelming reasons to make a switch would be the amount of time they save. And the efficiencies that would be brought to the business.

The speed of the cycle and the increased capacity of the dishwasher should prevent those moments when your running low on glasses or plates during busy periods. It also means your staff don’t need to spend as much time loading, unloading and programming a smaller dishwasher a number of times. They can concentrate on meeting the needs of customers.

Commercial dishwashers also provide a better standard of finish compared to a normal dishwasher. The high temperatures ensure crockery and glassware are not only clean but are also sanitised. An important feature when you have food hygiene standards to maintain.
